Summer break is almost here, and if you're a Maui parent looking for something truly meaningful to fill those long, open days — something that builds confidence, sharpens focus, and gives your child a skill they'll carry for life — we have great news.
Maui School for Strings is offering three hands-on summer music boot camps for kids this June and July, taught right here in Wailuku. No prior experience needed. Instruments and supplies included. Just show up ready to play.
Beginning Violin Boot Camp I — June 1, 3 & 5
Ages 6–13 | $190 | Limited to 12 students
Kick off summer the right way! Held at Fujitomo Hall on June 1st, 3rd, and 5th from 10 am to 1 pm, this 9-hour program is the perfect introduction to one of the world's most beloved instruments. Over three fun-filled mornings, your child will learn how to properly hold and care for a violin, draw their first bow strokes, and play their very first songs.
All supplies and instruction are included — nothing extra to buy or bring. The camp is taught by Uncle Roy, founder of Maui School for Strings, Suzuki-certified teacher, and cellist with the Maui Pops Orchestra. Spots are limited to just 12 students, so book early!
Beginning Cello Boot Camp — June 22, 24 & 26
Ages 8–12 | $220 | Limited to 6 students
Is your child drawn to the rich, warm sound of the cello? This is the camp for them. Running June 22nd, 24th, and 26th from 10 am to 1 pm, our Beginning Cello Boot Camp gives kids a genuine, immersive start on one of the most expressive instruments in the string family.
In 9 hours of expert instruction, students will learn the fundamentals of cello — from posture and bow hold to making their first real musical sounds. All supplies are provided. Because cello requires a bit more individual attention, this camp is intentionally kept small — just 6 spots available.
Beginning Violin Boot Camp II — July 27, 29 & 31
Ages 6–13 | $190 | Limited to 12 students
Missed the June session? No worries — we have one more violin boot camp to close out the summer! This session runs July 27th, 29th, and 31st from 10 am to 1 pm and offers the same high-quality, beginner-friendly instruction as Boot Camp I.
Think of it as the perfect back-to-school momentum builder — your child heads into the new school year having already learned something amazing. Studies show that children who study music develop stronger reading skills, better memory, and greater self-discipline.
