Welcome Tyler Lewis to Maui School for Strings!

We are thrilled to welcome Tyler Lewis to the teaching faculty at Maui School for Strings as a Guitar and Ukulele Specialist, where his deep musical knowledge and multi-faceted teaching experience will be a valuable asset to our growing community.

Tyler brings with him a lifetime of musical exploration and dedication to education. A seasoned multi-instrumentalist, Tyler is proficient in Guitar (Acoustic/Electric), Piano, Voice, Bass, 'Ukulele, and Drum Set. His journey as a professional musician began in the late 2000s when he toured globally as a guitarist in a world-traveling music group. Since his early teens, he has performed in hundreds of shows across dozens of bands, building a dynamic and diverse foundation in live music performance.

Born and raised in Portland, Oregon, Tyler’s academic background is equally impressive. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Pre-Med with a Chemistry minor from the University of Oregon, graduating with honors in 2006. While studying science by day, he never stepped away from the stage—music was always part of the equation. Later, he served as the primary Science, Math, and Music teacher at a private school for students with dyslexia, while also pursuing graduate studies in Education at Marylhurst University.

Tyler’s professional development spans traditional academics and the arts. He has attended summer intensives at Berklee College of Music in both Los Angeles and Boston, and has completed multiple certification programs in Science, Music, and Yoga. His holistic approach to teaching supports the diverse learning styles and creative interests of his students—something we deeply value at Maui School for Strings.

Now based on Maui, Tyler operates his own business specializing in music education, artist development, and event production. He’s a familiar face on the local music scene—performing regularly at a Tiki Lounge, hosting karaoke parties, and even consulting with Rockstar clients both locally and internationally via Zoom.

At Maui School for Strings, we believe in nurturing students through mentorship, creativity, and the joy of music-making. Tyler’s unique blend of professional performance, academic rigor, and teaching heart make him a perfect addition to our ‘ohana.
